Meet the owner!

Elizabeth Mesogianes, MT - BC

Hello and welcome to Riverview Music Therapy LLC! My name is Elizabeth Mesogianes and I am a life-long resident of Pennsville, NJ. Music has always been a large part of my life since I was a little girl to the point my parents say I could sing before I could speak. I was always involved in some form of music from church choir, to elementary choir, to orchestra, and even to the summer theater program in town. I graduated from Pennsville Memorial High School as part of the VOTECH Academy of Instrumental Music in 2015 and went on to attend West Virginia University's Honors College. Originally, I started out as a biology major but quickly realized that music was what I truly wanted to be doing and had a passion for. I auditioned for WVU's School of Music with viola as my primary instrument and successfully switched majors to music therapy as a way to combine my love of music and desire to help others. After completing course work, clinical hours, and a 10 month internship at Milestones & Music, LLC. in Grafton, WV, I graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy from WVU's Honors College in 2022. I have since obtained my music therapy board certification (MT-BC) as of January 2024. Bringing music therapy to my hometown has been a dream since the very beginning and I'm proud to finally bring it to life!

Music Therapy Q & A

What is music therapy?

According to the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), "Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program". Goals within domains such as motor, cognitive, social, behavioral, communicative, and emotional can be improved or maintained using music therapy interventions.

Who can be a music therapist?

A music therapist is an individual who has completed the following in order to practice music therapy in the U.S.:

- Holds a bachelor's or higher degree in music therapy from an AMTA approved university program

- Obtains 1200 hours of clinical training, including a supervised internship

- Successfully passed the national board certification exam to earn the MT-BC credential

Do I need to have a musical background to receive services?

NO! Music therapy is designed to be accessible to every individual regardless of age, sex, gender identity, physical/cognitive abilities, race, religion, etc.. Everyone is welcome to participate in services to their comfort level.

What can I expect during sessions?

Each session is unique to the client(s) receiving services so there really is no such thing as a "typical" or "standard" session. The music therapist will design sessions to meet the needs of the client that are outlined in their treatment plan.
